System requirements

macOS

• macOS 12 (Monterey) or later
• Apple Silicon or Intel processor

The build’s declared minimum is macOS 11, so it will install on Big Sur — but macOS 12 is the version Dusky is tested and supported on. Below that, treat it as unsupported.

Windows

• Windows 10 or later (64-bit)
• 4 GB RAM minimum

Both platforms require a stable internet connection for transcription and AI features.

Download Dusky

Download the latest version for your platform from getdusky.app.

Install on macOS

1. Open the downloaded .dmg file.
2. Drag Dusky into your Applications folder.
3. Launch Dusky from Applications or Spotlight.

Note

On first launch, macOS may show a security prompt because Dusky was downloaded from the internet. Click Open to proceed. Dusky is code-signed and notarized by Apple.

Install on Windows

1. Run the downloaded .exe installer.
2. There is no setup wizard and nothing to configure — the installer runs in one click, installs for the current user, and launches Dusky when it finishes.
3. Afterwards, launch Dusky from the Start menu. No desktop shortcut is created.

Caution

Dusky’s Windows build is not code-signed, so Windows SmartScreen will warn you on first run. Click More info then Run anyway to proceed. Signing is planned but not in place today.

Grant permissions

macOS

Dusky asks for two macOS permissions during onboarding, and first-run setup expects both. You can grant them from the onboarding screen or manually in System Settings.

Screen Recording (required)

This permission lets Dusky capture screenshots and register as a screen-share-excluded window so it stays invisible on Zoom, Meet, and Teams.

1. Open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording.
2. Toggle Dusky on.
3. Restart Dusky if prompted.

Microphone (required for setup)

Live audio transcription needs it, and onboarding will not continue until it is granted — the permission step only advances when both Screen Recording and Microphone are on. You can choose Skip for Now and use Dusky without it, but you will be warned, and transcription will not work.

1. Open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone.
2. Toggle Dusky on.

Windows

Windows handles permissions through system prompts. Dusky requests access automatically on first use.

Screen capture (required)

No manual configuration needed — Windows grants screen capture access to desktop apps by default.

Microphone (required for setup)

Live audio transcription needs it, and first-run setup expects it alongside screen capture.

1. Open Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone.
2. Make sure Microphone access is turned on and Dusky is allowed.

Sign in

Launch Dusky and sign in with your email (magic link) or Google account. A free trial is included so you can test every feature before purchasing.
